Creative High

I am on a creative high at the moment. I have found a way to make ceramic sculptures which are mine and mine only. For years I could not step out of the Maltby trap. Everything I made was Maltbyesque and the more I loved his work the more my stuff was just a pastiche, a copy of his technique and style. But playing with the kiln that John gave me, and that's a bit surreal!! I am now doing stuff that I am more and more happy with........and this includes thrown stuff on the wheel as well as sculpture.

Blue Moon

Ask me what day it is
I might not know
ask me what month
I might just know
ask me about June
a tune
lunar
spoon
a disc
eclipse
The moon's a balloon
The moon
am I a bafoon?
to contemplate
that spoon
aloft
swoon
swoon
swoon
there it is
again
again
and again
night after
night
there in brevity
defying gravity
sparkling my night sky
marking this flight
brief flight
into where????????
from nowhere to here and back again................................................

Happy Birthday to Me

Happy Birthday to me
Happy Birthday to me
Happy Birthday dear me
Happy Birthday to me!

Lovely messages and cards and presents!!!!  Texts and emails!! Thank you Thank you!! So many answer-phone messages as well. I am amazed!! When you get to my age you start considering your own mortality. You start to think who might turn up at your funeral for instance, and I've been thinking recently that I'll be lucky to get mourners into double figures. Then a Birthday like today's comes around and you think "Oh yeah" I'm not out there orbiting with Pluto like I thought I was.

I have to say, though, that the Skype with Hester and Moo-Moo gets top billing!! I had such fun out there and I miss them so much.

Anyway. If I do die. I want to leave my body to science fiction!. I'm not scared of dying. It's just that I don't want to be there when it happens! I'll leave you with those thoughts. The Birthday Boy.

Neil Young

I was jet-lagged out of my mind on Air-France Singapore to Paris back from Singapore on a 777 airplane through the night. My seat was booked for me, by Christophe. Bless you Christophe!!! leg - room great but no-way could I sleep. Everyone around me was fast asleep. Australian next to me blanket over his head for nine hours. After 4 or so hours I twiddled with the hi-fi stuff. First stuff I got was Jimi Hendrix "Red House" WOW !¬!! Yes!! Serious hit here. THIS WOKE ME UP.twiddle twiddle and then I found an old album of Neil Young...............ZUMA recorded back in the 80's
and it was just wonderful
crazy
wild
jagged
contorted guitar
angry
I was really surprised that Air-France would have this on their system
It's nowhere near mainstream and it was just what I needed to propel me through the night.

Mother and Child

I'm almost tempted to type nothing and just let you drink from this freshwater spring. I can be a bit embarrassing at times. I can wax lyrical, you know....slightly....no crazily....OTT!! But this picture received today made me well-up when I saw it. I can get a bit emotional. Which is embarrassing for a bloke like me. But isn't it the most wonderful picture????!!! The white wall. The white, flower speckled, bedspread. Hester's white chemise and white petty-coat-like skirt. The dazzling white sunlight reflected in that opulent mirror.....which sits over an even more opulent Indian white shell-inlaid chest-of-drawers, and of course Margot would have to be in white, wouldn't she? I think Hester subconsciously choreographs stuff like this. Not sure she really knows that she's doing it. She can't help herself. There's this innate aesthetic that she carries with her at all times. Her Aura!! She's wonderful. She's beautiful. She's stunning.... and most amazing of all.......she's my daughter!!!!!

Out to lunch. This kid knows how to party! Fancy giving a kid spaghetti!

Margot Poppy Aba

Elodie tended to be in the spotlight a bit, obviously, because of all her chat and hijinks and Margot tended to keep a rather low profile. She does giggle a lot if you smile at her and she has been waking up during the night for feeds and company which Hester is more than happy with. Elodie calls her Margot Puppy woof woof!!
